Open Government & Innovation
We are here today to discuss "Open Government" and Innovation.
This is designed as an information session for both local government employees and members of the Shoalhaven community.
There are 3 important parts to Open Government.
These are;
- Transparency
- Participation
- Collaboration
Today we intend to focus on the community relationship aspects of Open Government (Participation and Collaboration), and specifically on Community Engagement.
Community Engagement is now an important part of all councils' strategic plans.
This council has developed a Community Strategic Plan and the key focus of this plan is "community engagement".
The Shoalhaven Council has developed a "Community Engagement Strategy" (attached here).
Community engagement involves participation (from both community and government) as well as collaboration (to get things done).
You might ask why the summit title includes "Innovation".
Innovation is capturing and implementing the best ideas for social good.
Innovation and innovative practices are essential if we are to succeed and deliver worthwhile, required services to our Community.
This conference has been organised by Shoalhaven City Council to start the the process of Open Government Innovation and to set the Community Engagement process in Shoalhaven on a firm footing.
We welcome your involvement ("participation") and look forward to our "collaboration" and focus on community engagement delivering significant benefits to the community of Shoalhaven.
