Open Government Initiative
A global exercise is being organised (by US based advocates) to run simultaneous "summits" (meetings) around the world on "Open Government" and its benefits.
The summits are to be organised by local councils (municipalities) in major cities and towns where there is an interest in the "Open Government" movement.
The key aims of the summit are;
- The education of in house council staff (and management) on what "open Government" entails
- Describe the benefits of "Open Government" to councils
- Drive an interest (enthusiasm) in open governemnt
- Educate "visiting" council employees on the benefits of open government
- Educate the community on open government, the benefits and the role communities can play in driving government decisions
- Demonstrate open government in action (via case studies/examples of good practice.
The summit will take a broad, explanatory approach via a simple but informative Summit Agenda
All are invited to attend your nearest summit location.
Perhaps we should discuss the Community Information Toolkit released by the Knight Foundation in the USA.
It appears to be available to all (while tested in the USA). It seems to provide tools that would provide a wonderful link to your local community.
